Once upon a time, there lived a caterpillar named Sid.
He was the prince of the caterpillar kingdom and was very happy.
He had no problems.

One day, Sid decided to venture outside of the castle.
Growing restless, he wanted to see what life was like in the city.

Sid was not prepared for what he saw.
He saw an older caterpillar, a dead caterpillar, and a sick caterpillar.

Finally, Sid came to a new part of the forest, where he met caterpillars unlike any he had ever seen before.
These caterpillars were wrapped up in cocoons.
Sid called up to the cocooned caterpillars, "Hello! What are you doing?"
"We are trying to become butterflies," they replied. "Then, our suffering will end."

Sid had never heard of a butterfly, but he also wanted to end suffering, so he joined the cocooned caterpillars.
He soon found that he was not able to grow into a butterfly yet.

Sid came down from his cocoon and met another caterpillar who lived in between the city life and the cocoon life.
He had found a middle way.

For five days and nights, Sid sat in a new cocoon, thinking, and on the sixth day, he emerged from the cocoon, realizing he knew the answer about the nature of suffering and how to end it.

Sid emerged as a butterfly! He flew around, teaching what he had learned.
He was now called the Buddha, meaning "the awakened one."

The first thing he taught the crowd about were the four noble truths:
"1) Suffering is an inevitable part of life
2) Wanting is the source of suffering
3) Suffering can be overcome by letting go of want
4) The Eightfold Path is the way to do this!"
