This book is dedicated to all the mitochondria who ventured to become part of Eukaryotic cells giving our cells energy.

Many, many years ago, four billion years-to be exact, a young family, named Prokaryote, was making their home in the only dry spot they could find.

At this time on the Earth, it was mostly covered by a ginormous salty ocean with many ions.

There were angry volcanoes throughout the area. The wind howled and howled. In the backdrop, the Prokaryote family could hear the volcanoes erupting and the oceans swirling madly.

There was not much life, other than the Prokaryote family. Each day, though, new family members were being born. With time, the small, young family had grown into a larger family with many siblings. One of the Prokaryote children named, Mitochondrion, decided he was ready for adventure. He dreamed of breaking free and seeing the world.
