In the heart of Hopeville, United States, there lived a ten-year-old girl called Emma. Emma was a spirited and kind-hearted girl with a contagious smile that could brighten up anyone's day. A lot of people that lived in the city were immigrants from several parts of the world either fleeing violence in war for safety or looking for better jobs. The city was gripped with danger as the young people were robbing to have a better life.

Her family, consisting of her parents, Maria and John, and her younger brother, Diego, like any immigrant family, lived in the shadows of poverty after immigrating from Cape Verde, West Africa. Her parents, like the rest of the parents, were finding it hard to find a job that would sustain the family. However, Emma's spirit was far from broken. She resolved to improve her family’s conditions, to defy the odds, and to bring hope by being the first child to go to college in the United States.

Every day, Emma and her family grappled with the sounds of hungry bellies echoing through the cramped apartment they called home. Her parents couldn’t find any work to do even for a little money due to employers discriminating against them because they couldn’t speak English well and they didn’t have minimum qualifications, as her parents never went to school. Her heart ached as she watched her brother go to bed with a rumbling stomach. That hunger drove Emma, pushing her to make a difference in the future.

There was a public school in the city, which Emma attended with her brother. There were kids like them as some of the children in the school were immigrants and could not afford private schools. Emma made friend groups with the other immigrant children in the school. Each day in school, White kids would bully Emma and her friends in the school because they couldn’t afford to eat, and they were very lean and quite malnourished.

Hopeville was divided by an invisible wall of inequality. The economic inequality in Hopeville was deeply rooted in systemic issues. The employers in the city benefited from workers working more for little money. Unfortunately, the City Council never supported these immigrant workers. Since immigrant families found it difficult to get a job and support their families, they had no other choice but to go in and work for little money. Emma's motivation came from her love for her family and her burning desire to be a social worker in the future to help children and ensure that no child in Hopeville went to bed hungry.
However, Emma's path was fraught with obstacles. The judgment and stigma that her family faced weighed heavily on her small shoulders. Her family couldn’t speak English, and the White community in the city saw immigrants as uneducated and dangerous people. This White, elite society in her city doubted that a change could happen in the community for the immigrant families.
At school, Emma and her friend group sat under a tree to eat their lunch, which compared to the other children was not so healthy; however, they had no other choice than to eat it. While they ate their food, they said to one another how they should make a difference in their families as they were the first generation to step foot in a classroom.
As years passed, Emma and her colleagues learned very hard for themselves to do well in school. They taught each other and made sure all of them succeeded in school.
In grade 12, Emma and her friends were excited about going to college! But they knew not everyone had the same opportunities. Some families in their town, especially those who had come from different countries, faced challenges getting enough food to eat.
Emma and her pals had big hearts and wanted to help. They got together and thought of ways they could make a difference. They decided to talk to important people in their town, like the folks who worked in the government, to share their ideas and help those in need.
Emma and her friends felt a bit nervous, but they didn't let that stop them. They went to local businesses and shared stories about families struggling to get enough healthy food. They explained how they were doing well in school and wanted to do good for others. Guess what? The local businesses loved their ideas! They wanted to be a part of helping too. They gave food, money, and support to Emma and her friends to help with their mission.
With all the support they received, Emma and her pals started giving out healthy food every week to families who needed it the most. It made them super happy to see smiles on people's faces when they received the food. They even got to speak to important people in their town, like the city council, about the important changes needed in their community such as fair treatment of low-income workers, and good wages for their work.
Emma spoke from her heart about how everyone deserves a chance to have enough food. She told them about the families she met and how they wanted to help in any way they could.
Emma and her friends worked hard, and with the help of other kind people who volunteered, they made a difference! They couldn't solve everything, but they started important conversations about why some families didn't have enough food. Their efforts made the natives in their town pay attention and think about making things better for everyone by not discriminating and giving care and support to poor families.
As Emma and her friends continued their mission, more and more people in Hopeville noticed their efforts. Some kids from wealthy backgrounds from school wanted to join in too! Together, they formed a team called "Hope Helpers." They wore matching t-shirts and worked hard to make their town a better place.
One sunny afternoon, the Hope Helpers team received an exciting phone call. It was from a local newspaper reporter who had heard about their amazing work! The reporter wanted to interview Emma and her friends and share their story with the whole town.

They sat down with the friendly reporter and talked about how they started helping families in need and how important it was to them. The story soon appeared in the newspaper, spreading their message even further!

With the newspaper article, even more people wanted to help the Hope Helpers. The rich neighbors donated cans of food and fresh vegetables. Some local farmers even shared their crops! Everyone wanted to be part of making a positive change.
Emma and her friends felt grateful for all the support. They worked together to sort the food and pack it into baskets. Then, they set off to deliver the food to families who needed it most.
One day, while delivering food baskets, The Hope Helpers met a family who had just moved to Hopeville. The family felt nervous because they didn't know many people yet. The Hope Helpers warmly introduced them to the community. They all played games together and shared stories. By the end of the day visit, the new family felt welcomed and happy.

As the days passed, the Hope Helpers grew even closer. They planned a big event at the town's park to raise awareness about hunger. They set up booths with games, music, and information about how everyone could help those in need. Many families came, and they all had a wonderful time while learning about the importance of helping others.
Seeing how much the community cared, the mayor of Hopeville invited the Hope Helpers to the City Hall. They were thrilled! They wore their best clothes and practiced what they wanted to say to the mayor and the city council. Emma stood tall in front of the mayor and spoke about their journey, the families they helped, and the support they received. Everyone in the room listened intently to Emma's words.

After Emma finished speaking, there was a moment of silence. Then, the mayor stood up and clapped. "Emma and the Hope Helpers," he said with a smile, "you are an inspiration to us all! Your caring hearts have shown us how important it is to help others."
The city council agreed to work with Emma and her friends to create new ways to support families in need. The room was filled with applause and cheers of joy.

The Hope Helpers were overjoyed by the mayor's support. They left City Hall feeling like they could do anything! On their way back home, they chatted excitedly about their plans to make an even bigger difference in Hopeville.
They brainstormed new ideas for helping more families, like starting a community garden where everyone could grow fresh fruits and vegetables together.
