The accident was caused by a combination of design flaws and human errors. The Soviet government initially tried to conceal the incident, but international pressure forced them to acknowledge the disaster.

4. EXCLUSION ZONE
After the accident, an exclusion zone with a radius of 30 kilometers was established around the power plant. This area remains off-limits to humans, except for scientists and workers involved in recovery efforts.

5. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Released radiation caused diseases and death in humans and animals. To this day, some areas around Chernobyl still have high levels of radiation.
