Long ago, there was a princess whose
name was Leena. Her mother, the queen,
had died after Leena's birth. The king
loved his daughter very much, but taking
care of his kingdom kept him so busy that
he has little time for her.
The little princess contented herself
with studying in the tower library or
wandering about the palace and its
grounds asking questions of all she
met.

"Can't you make anything but carrot cake
for dessert?" she asked the Royal Baker.
"Indeed I can." he answered
"The why don't you?" the princess asked.
"King order", said the Royal Baker
"Why are you wearing that silly thing on
your head?" Leena asked one of the
Royal Guard.
"King orders" answered the Royal Guard

"Do all flowers look alike?" she asked
to the Royal Gardener.
"Indeed not,"answered the Royal
Gardener.
"Then why don't you plant other
kinds?" the princess asked
"King orders," said the Royal Gardener
who planted nothing but tulips."Only
Tulips grown in this country."

Everywhere Leena went she
asked questions . The answer
was always the same .. "King
orders."

When Leena grew tired of studying in the palace
tower or wandering around asking questions, she
visited Old Lin, who lived in a small cottage at the
palace gate. Old Lin has a fairy named Lily.
Leena, Old Lin and Lily spent many happy
hours roaming through the nearby woods and
fields.
From Old Lin and Lily, Leena learned the
ways of wild creatures and the mysteries of
making healing potions from the herbs they
gathered.

Leena and Lily studied
the secrets of the stars.
Slowly a deep bond of friendship
grew. And one night to confirm that
friendship. Old Lin shared with Leena
her most precious gift - the power of
magic and her fairy, Lily.

"People should live in houses they want, choose
the clothes they want, grow the flowers they
like...." ...."and they're going to, right now," "For
I am change everything with my magic power.
"No, No," Old Lin cautioned. "You should not use your
magic unless all fails." said Lily
"If I can't use my magic, I shall find a way to use my
intelligence when the time comes." the princess
replied
"I know you will." said Old Lin.
Leena was puzzled at first. But then she
smiled and gave Old Lin a Hug

Years went by in this fashion until it came to
the king one day that Princess Leena was no
longer a child but a woman.
"My crown is getting heavy for me to
wear." said the king to his
counselors. "I have been king long
enough" he continued. "The time has
come for the Princess to rule the
Kingdom.

"Princess Leena?!" exclaimed Chief
Counselor.
"Girls can't rule kingdoms!"

Now Princess Leena love her father
and wanted to pleased him she saw,
however, that there was the chance
she had been waiting for.

"If you teach me," she said, "I can rule the
Kingdom."
"You!" exploded Chief Counselor. "It's clear, Your
Majesty, that Princess Leena has not had a proper
education."
"Princesses should spend their time trying
on gowns and jewels and going to balls."
said Super Chief Counselor.
The king was rather pleased with his daughter's
straightforward answer, but as he was move tired
than he like to admit, he easily gave in to the
counselor's pressures.

Thus it was a princess Leena was forced
to spend her days trying on things that
the king's counselors thought made a
proper princess..
dressing gowns, dinner gowns and ball
gowns
Lace shawls for summer
Silver capes for winter
Mantillas and bonnets and hoods
slippers, sandals and boots
bracelets, necklaces and rings.
Almost every night there was a great ball
in her honor.
