The story begins with a girl named Lucy. Lucy moved to America from Asia. She was excited, but very nervous to go to a new school.

Lucy's father decided to move her family here because he knew he would get better pay in America for the job he was doing.

Lucy was scared because she was still learning how to speak English and struggled with some words. She didn't want to feel left out in conversations.
Now lets see how Lucy overcomes this challenge and the friends she makes along the way!

Mom, I don't want to go to school. What if they make fun of me? I still have so much to learn.
Lucy it will be okay, I know it must be hard leaving a home you have known your whole life and having to learn a new language. It will just take time to adjust.

Lucy put on a brave smile as she walked into her new classroom. Preparing to stay as quiet as possible so she didn't embarrass herself if she messed up a word.

Hi, you must be our new student. Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?
Um hello, I am Lucy. I am from Asia.

Thank you Lucy! Alright class now let's split into groups and have a discussion about the topic at hand!

Hi Lucy, it is so great to meet you. Would you like to join in on the conversation?
No, it is okay. I will listen.

Lucy left school that day feeling defeated and out of place. All she wanted was to fit in. Her classmates were welcoming but no one understood the difficulty of learning a new language.
