Once upon a time there were five penguins who 

lived in a lovely ice-house, a very long way 

away, where the stars always sparkle.

The ice-house was perched at 

the top of a small snow 

mountain, and the penguins all 

slept together in a long room 

with five wooden beds, five little 

lamps and a bookcase for the 

books their mummy read their 

bedtime stories from.

One fine morning, when they were all having 

their breakfast in the big, warm kitchen with 

their mummy and daddy, daddy said that if 

they finished their fish bone porridge down to 

the bottom of their bowls, he would take them 

on an adventure walk to the foot of the 

mountain where the moonbeam flowers 

grew.......

Well, you've never seen five penguins gobble 

up their breakfast so quickly and after they had 

washed and cleaned their beaks, they stood 

ready to go at the door with their bobble hats 

and scarves snugly in place.

Mummy stood at the door as they all went 

slipping and sliding down the side of the 

mountain towards peek-a-boo lake, where the 

moonbeam flowers were making a lovely 

show in the morning sunlight. It took almost 

an hour to get to the bottom of the mountain 

and they had to stop once for a rest so that 

the smallest penguin could catch his breath.

At last they arrived at the bottom, feathers 

standing on end and eyes bright and clear. 

Pretty flowers grew near the water and at night 

they collected all the colour from the 

moonbeams in their petals and when the sun 

rose in the morning, the lovely colours glowed 

like jewels.
