Dedicat lu Igor

Located in northern China, this cold desert holds the place for the sixth largest dessert in the world.
The name comes from the mongolian word "Gobi", which is used to reffer to all waterless places in the Mongolian Plateau.

The Gobi desert measures 1600km east to west and 800 km north to south.

This is a picture of it. A big part of this desert, contrary to the belief that all deserts are made of sand, is made mostly of exposed rock.
Due to the harsh air conditions, the vegetation of Gobi is almost inexistent.
However, animals like camels, kulan and dzeren, who are designed to live in such difficult
environments, can be found in this desert.

In winter, temperatures can go as low as -40°C, yet summers can be considered torrid, with temperatures going over 30°C.
This extreme fluctuation in temperatures can be explained by the lack of water.
