Once, there was a Hare. He was very fast and was known as a very good racer in the forest.
One day, the Hare came upon the Tortoise who was walking through the forest very slowly. The Hare started laughing at him for being so slow. He called him, "the slowest animal he had ever seen!" The Tortoise was not bothered by the Hare’s mean remarks, so he just kept on walking.

The Hare kept making fun of the Tortoise, and it started to bother the Tortoise. So he said, “You can call me slow, but I have always made it to my destination. I bet I would even beat you in a race.” The Hare laughed and agreed to the race.
“3..2..1.. GO!” and the Tortoise and the Hare started their race.

The Hare took off running right away, but the Tortoise was walking very slowly. When the Hare made it halfway, he decided to go to the carrot field since he was so far ahead. When he came back from the carrot field, he saw that the Tortoise was still near the starting line.
Almost to the finish line, the Hare decided he could lay in the grass since the Tortoise was still so far away. So, he laid down in the grass and accidentally fell asleep!
When the Hare woke up, the Tortoise was almost to the finish line. It was too late for the Hare to win. The Tortoise had won!

The moral of the story, "The Tortious and the Hare", is that slow and steady wins the race.
