Once there was a time when the colonies and
the British lived in peace with each other. The
British weren't to controlling over the colonies
and left them alone. This is called solitary
neglect. It turned for the worse when the
French and Indian war started. The French and
Indian war was a very large war between the
the British and the French, with native tribes
helping both groups. Here are the reasons it all
fell apart!

The Proclamation of 1763 did not allow the colonists to
move West of the Appalachian mountains. The colonist
felt betrayed because they wanted to settle on the Ohio
River valley. The British kept 10,000 soldiers stationed in
the colonies to make sure people followed the rules.

The Stamp Act taxed anything printed on paper by
requiring colonists to but stamps, seals and so on.
They felt frustrated and caused them to resent British
rule. The British then repealed the act.

Required colonists to quarter, or house and feed, British
soldiers. The colonists felt annoyed because they did not
like the idea of housing British soldiers, for they tended
to be impolite and caused lots of awkwardness. The
British told the colonies it was something to repay the
soldiers because they protected them during the French
and Indian war.

This law made colonists pay taxes on all imported items.
The colonists felt enraged and boycotted British goods.
The British then sent more British troops.

Made BEIC the only company that could sell tea to the
colonies. The colonists were in disbelief and then they
rebelled and refused to accept the tea. The British then
created more laws to make as much money as possible.

These laws stopped all trade between Boston and
Britain. The colonists were infuriated and startled. This
act spurred revolutionary spirit through the colonies.
Made more laws and were furious at the colonies.

I believe the colonists declared independence
because they were fed up with all the laws
forcing them to pay taxes or cut importing
things off. This heavily favored the British only
and the British no longer treated the colonists
as British citizens. I believe the British could
have avoided this by leaving the colonists
alone after the French and Indian war and not
demanding lots of things from the colonists.
Also if they had of treated the colonist fairly as
British citizens.
