Hello. My name is Jerry, but you can call me Big,
that's what my friends call me. I guess you'd like me
to tell you my part in World War One. Unfortunately, I
did NOT want to be a part of it, but I was drafted
(meaning I was FORCED to go by the government),
and had to go anyways.

Before I joined the war, many things happened. For
one, because of the Industrial Revolution, the power of
the United States grew. We gained a LOT more power in
the world due to the things we sold. We even
imperialised (took over) some new areas. For example,
we got Puerto Rico, Alaska, the Philippines, and many
more. it was good for the United States, but not the
places we took over. After we "conquered" these areas,
our president declared we would be done with
imperialism.
Our president also took part in China's "Open Door
Policy", which stated anyone in the world could have
industries in China. This effected mainly the United
States, Great Britain, and China, as they were world
powers (and China was the one allowing others to come
in).
After the great War started, the Red Cross started
sending people over to take care of the injured.

So on I went. Boot camp did not exist back then. We
were briefly filled in on what to do and where to go, and
sent off. In other words- VERY untrained. So I went on
my MERRY old way to the war zone. I would miss my
girlfriend badly the whole time.
Anyways, WW1 ACTUALLY started because Archduke
Franz Ferdinand was killed at Sarajevo on June 28th,
1914, although feelings between several nations back
then were not that great (due to militarism, nationalism,
and imperialism). America and Britain at first did not
want to join the war. Britain joined because Germany
marched through Belgium, who was great friends with
Britain. America joined because tensions were high
when the Germans sunk one of their ships (although
they had weapons on board), and, after the more ships
were sunk, the United States got fed up and declared
war on Germany.

America's involvement, my, involvement, was really to
have troops in the air and on the ground fighting the
Germans and Austria-Hungarians. They allied with
Britain, Russia, and France.
However, back home, daily life worsened. Luxuries were
typically taken away, food, mink, water, and almost
everything else was not plentiful at ALL due to the fact
we were also feeding the rest of our allies as well,
because their crops were being wrecked. Our economy
boosted because of this, though, which I guess is a plus.
People had to start getting a limited amount of
everything, even mild, bread, meat, etc... And civil
freedoms were restricted because if anyone spoke out
against the government, they were A- severely punished
or, B- killed.

Women slowly started to ask for more rights. They even
started doing "men's" work! If men could vote, why
couldn't they? So women started to take a stand. They
wanted to be equal! So my girlfriend, along with many
other women, fought hard to get rights. And in the end,
succeeded.
And so I fought in the war. I lost a comrade, Davie, to a
German. I'll spare you the details of exactly what
happened.
Anyways, eventually Russia and Germany struck a deal.
They would team up and try to defeat the other "good
guys" of the war.
Russia, soon after realized their mistake, apologized, and
stopped helping Germany, who, after Austria-Hungary
was defeated, after this, Germany's leader ordered his
Navy to attack Britain.
