Welcome to Colonial America
before the American
Revolution. A lot of things
happened during this time,
including increase in British rule
and colonial rebellions! Let's
check it out.

After the French and Indian war,
colonists wanted to settle past
the Appalachian mountains to
spread out. But, the British
passed the Proclamation of 1763
which forced colonists to settle
east of the Appalachians, and
couldn't expand west. The
colonists were very angry about
this, because they wanted more
land and the British were just
taking it away.

On April 5th, 1764, The British
passed an act called The Sugar
Act. This act forced you the
colonists in America to pay a tax
on sugar. It also increased taxes
on coffee, indigo, and wine. The
British government did not ask
permission from the colonists to
do this. Most Colonists were angry
that the British Government took
action without them getting a say.
They didn't like that they were
being controlled by the British.

In order to try to tighten control
on the colonies, the British put
the Quartering Acts into place.
The colonists were furious,
because they were already mad
at the British soldiers for taking
their jobs, and now they are
forced to house and feed them.
Housing and feeding a British
soldier was expensive, especially
if you could barely feed your own
family. This caused the colonists
to boycott even further.
