Irregular Figures Song
Try to turn these steps into a song to follow along:
A Glimpse into Irregular Figures
You open up to page seven one two, Part 3 Section 2
The problem says to the estimate the area of this shoe
"The shape is not a shape!!" you think.
It's lines and squiggles and big fat half circles like the hose on your sink
Of course you can't ask
Its a shame if you do for its a prep test you see.
So no answers are given
Just a pen and a paper as long as a ribbon
"HOW DO YOU SOLVE IT?!" you think.
You concentrate so hard your face turns pink
You start to freak out until you think of the song from back in fourth grade
On that poster with the colorful wolfs and you remember when your teacher
Put it up on the wall
It took up the whole corner for it wasn't very small.
You hum the song
Foot tapping, tongue clacking and it goes like this...

Algebra Puzzle
I’m Algebra, hi.
In algebra you solve for X or Y.
In algebra you find the missing number.
Just like you find that missing piece of a puzzle.
Algebra and puzzles are somehow alike.
Find the missing piece to make the whole thing right.
Look at this puzzle of a beach,
Tell me, can you find the missing piece?
Is it A, B, C, or D?
To find the answer, turn your head 180 degrees.
~Naomi
Answer: A.

Answer: 12
Pattern Appendages
A Reflection on Patterns
Patterns are simple but there’s so many attributes: color, size, shape, (so there are many ways to sort them.) They might be hard to find, but you can find them everywhere. A wooden table has a pattern – the lines of the wood grains are a repeating pattern, for example. Clouds can be patterns due to their attributes, so they can be charted. They can indicate different weather types, and then people can predict what type of weather it will be. Paint can be patterned. There are all different types – color, texture, ability or boldness. Some paint is thin/thick, some dries quickly/slowly. Butterfly wings have patterns. They can be categorized by species and size. Colors can be patterned. By shade – darker/lighter. There can be different types to be used in many different ways – colored pencils, paints (oil, acrylic, water), crayons, pastels.
And you can find many more patterns, like numbers!
Looking at the picture, can you find all the numbers? You can also add two addends together (but only two!) to get a new number or sum. Try to find them all AND numbers that haven’t been noted yet. What is the largest sum? Good luck!
Parts of a Whole
In the realm of numbers, decimals, and precents
A world of mathematical concepts
That can leave us perplexed.
Fractions represent parts of a whole,
Like pieces of a pie,
Dividing up into smaller segments,
Until they catch the eye.

Multiplying Decimals Advice
You may think multiplying decimals
will drain your soul or that it is too hard.
You may think that you won’t be able to do it.
But, take my advice and it won’t be so bad!
First, you multiply just regularly
Then, count the decimal places in the problem
Lastly, put the same # of places behind the decimal in your answer
See it is simple, if you try.
Ok, maybe not.
But…don't give up!

Tenths and Fifths and Thirds and Ones!
Shade it in, you can win.
3 tens 5 ones and 2 thirds!
Don't worry if its not easy
Soon it will become the norm,
You will survive!
Fractions can be a light in the dark
or maybe a founding spark
Fractions and models are everywhere
Even in your brain under your hair!
-Tallulah

Time
Time never slows down
Time makes me frown
The big hand, the little hand, and the red hand
Like an hourglass full of sand
Time and time again there always seems to be more time
We are all just waiting for the bell to chime
Seconds always tick by faster than you can see
Minutes have 60 seconds inside each one Mississippi
Hours seem to be the worst, the ones that last forever
Days seem to only go quickly
when you're having the best day ever
-Madrone

The Function
You see something flying across the lawn.
Suddenly your attention is drawn.
You see that it's a soccer ball.
It's made of lines as you recall.
But lines are less simple then they seem.
Lines are actually quite extreme.
Lines can make up things called functions.
Don't let them cause your brain to malfunction.
Functions are a sort of pattern.
Functions can measure the speed of Saturn.
Functions are so amazing. That's why them I'm appraising.
