ACT OF KINDNESS CALENDAR
The benefits of acts of kindness like boosting mood, reducing stress and possibly alleviating symptoms of anxiety were shared with students. Students wrote acts of kindness they want to do on calendar templates. We discussed what kind of acts we can do to spread kindness around us.We also wrote acts of kindness on the board and created a shared calendar for our classroom.We created an acts of kindness calendar and act of kindness tree for the school board to spread kindness in our school.

We have introduced our kindness calendar and tree. Students have chosen one kindness for each day from calendar, acted that kindness, written their kindness on heart shaped pages and put them on the kindness tree. This motivated students to do more kindness.

Students also prepared kindness calendar with their families. They wrote acts of kindness they can do as a family.

We also created online kindness calendar for our school and shared via whatsapp with other families.

HAPPINESS JAR
First we talked about the emotions. Then, we did the emotion awareness and emotion regulation activity on wordwall.
I put emotion jars on board. Students wrote a moment for each emotion. Some students have shared their emotion and moments related to those emotion.
We have discussed their way of coping with negative emotions. I have given the information about gratitude.
I have told them ‘Gratitude is one of the positive emotions that helps us notice and appreciate what we have and pay more attention to small positive things which happen each day. Being grateful can help improve mental health for both adults and children. But it does not just happen to us, we should build gratitude through practice. Today we would start to build our gratitude by designing happiness jar together. It offers us a place to express the beautiful moments and blessings in our life, and also revisit them when we want to reminisce and feel better. ’

Students designed their happiness jars. They took their happiness jars home.
They also created a happiness jar for their families. They chose a regular time to write down their gratitude and place them in the jar. They have also decided on when they will read those papers in the jar to re-live those happy memories.

Am discutat și am făcut un brainstorming despre unele lucruri - momente pe care elevii doresc să le schimbe. Am lucrat împreună pentru a decide asupra lucrurilor care nu sunt sub controlul lor. Am explicat că pot exista lucruri în viața noastră pe care nu le putem controla și este bine să renunțăm la lucruri pe care nu le putem controla, deoarece singura persoană pe care o putem controla suntem noi înșine. Așa că, le-am spus elevilor că vom face împreună o activitate de letting go. Le-am rugat să se gândească la un moment care îi face triști, anxioși, stresați, nefericiți etc. Au scris sau desenat acel moment sau lucru care îi face nefericiți. Unii dintre studenți (studenti voluntari) și-au exprimat sentimentele

Then, they have imagined as if they let the negative feelings go, they teared the papers on which negative thins were written-drawn and they have put them in blender. After we have placed torn paper in the blender, we filled blender with water. We put enough water in to cover all the paper and blended until we had mushy pulp. Place a colander inside a bowl. Pour the pulp mixture into the colander to drain some of the water. Continue with steps 4-5 until we have blended all our soaked paper. Pour contents from colander into a separate bowl.
We have imagined as if we would grown positive feelings by adding seeds to torn papers. We have shaped them and students took some of them home. They planted those seeds with their families.
We gave seed balls to our school staff by thanking them for making our life easier. At school we also colored pots and planted our seeds in those pots with school staff to improve school staff and students interaction and students’ belonging to school.

First we talked about the importance of feeding animals. We brainstormed about how making contribution to the lives of animals or any living creature could affect our well being. The benefits of having bird feeder was shared with students;

Students had searched for what kinds of food birds eat, which design is the best accessible by birds. We decided on design and foods. Students brought reusable materials for our design.
We made our bird feeders with reusable materials. We sticked some of the bird feeders to the tree at school to set an example for other students.
Students took their bird feeders with them and as a family they sticked to trees around their neighborhoods.

IN SMALL GROUPS, WE TALK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE KIND, WHO CAN WE BE KIND TO, WE EACH SAY A COMPLIMENT TO EACH OTHER. IT IS A SAFE AND VERY ENRICHING MOMENT. WE BRAINSTORM AND WRITE ACTS OF KINDNESS. WE WORK TOGETHER, EVERYONE’S OPINIONS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE CONSIDERED.

WE HAVE LEFT A PHYSICAL COPY OF THE CALENDAR IN OUR CLASS, SO WE CAN REFER AND GO BACK TO IT IF WE NEED TO. WE PUT A SMILEY STICKER ANYTIME WE “COMPLETE” ANY ACT OF KINDNESS.

IN SMALL GROUPS, WE TALK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE GRATEFUL, WHICH THINGS MAKE US HAPPY, WE SAY SOMETHING THAT RECENTLY MADE US HAPPY. WE START PREPARING THE DECORATIONS FOR OUR CLASS HAPPINESS JAR. WE USE A RECYCLED POWDERED CHOCOLATE JAR, AND IT SMELLS DELICIOUS!!!

WE REALLY ENJOY THE PROCESS OF CREATING OUR HAPPINESS JAR!!!
WE PUT OUR HAPPINESS JAR IN A SPECIAL AREA, SO STUDENTS FROM BOTH CLASSES HAVE ACCESS TO IT WHENEVER THEY WANT TO WRITE ABOUT A HAPPY MOMENT THEY HAD DURING THEIR DAY.

INDIVIDUALLY WE WRITE ABOUT A SAD EVENT THAT HAS HAPPENED TO US. THEN WE SHARE WITH THE REST OF THE GROUP. WE LISTEN LOVINGLY. THEN WE GET RID OF THAT SAD FEELING BY TEARING UP THE PAPER IN LITTLE PIECES. WE PLACE THEM IN A BOWL OR TRAY. WE SOAK THE LITTLE PAPER PIECES IN WATER. WE LET THEM REST FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. WE PUT THE MIX IN A BLENDER AND SQUEEZE OUT THE WATER. WE ADD THE FLOWER SEEDS AND START MAKING OUR SEED BALLS. THIS IS THE PART OF THE PROCESS WE ENJOYED THE MOST :)

WE LET THEM DRY. THEY ARE READY TO TAKE HOME AND BE PLANTED. WE HAVE DECIDED AS A GROUP TO WHOSE TEACHERS WE WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SOME OF THE SEEDBALLS. THE STUDENTS WANTED TO SUPRISE FORMER AND CURRENT TEACHERS, SOME OF THOSE HAVE PLANTED THE SEEDBALLS WITH THEIR ACTUAL STUDENTS.
