Deep in the woods, there is a deer.  

You can never see it by looking, 

because he can't be found. 

But if you respect the deer's home, 

and you wish hard enough, 

the deer will find you.

(Some say that you also have to do cartwheels 

and somersaults for 30 minutes straight, but that 

would make you much too dizzy to see the deer when 

he comes, so that would be a silly thing to do.

But you could do gymnastics if you really wanted to.)

The deer is old. Even older than 

the trees in the forest. 

(Just ask them, they'll tell you.)

He used to be as small as you, 

but as time passed, he grew.

You would too, if you could 

live as long as him.

The deer has seen a lot of things in his life, 

and he's visited a lot of places, 

and his favorite thing to do 

is to show them to you.

He might take you to a 

beach with purple sand.

Or the mountains to see 

the glimmering snow.

Or across the seas to see 

a new land with new people.

Or, if you ask really nicely, he might

 even take you to the moon, even though

 he doesn't like visiting there very much.
