Hanna's classmates have left the school in protest of her being a student. To get pupils back in school, Miss Walters allows Hanna to attempt her final examinations for her diploma ahead of schedule.

Hanna attempts her 4 examinations in grammar, arithmetic, history, orthography, and geography. She completes arithmetic first, as she is most nervous for that portion

After finishing, Hanna and her fellow potential graduate Bess exchange pleasantries which gives Hanna hope that she may make a friend after all.

Back at the shop, Hanna had Mr. Hart read her diploma. She passed with flying marks! Her dad was very proud of her performance

This is to certify that Hanna Mae Edwards has hereby completed the regular course of instruction

After graduating, Hanna began working even harder at the family shop. It remains to be seen if she will become friends with Bess, and the situation at the school seems far from over..
