We'd like to dedicate this page to Jimmy Carter! Happy Birthday Jimbo!

James became king in 1685. He was king of England, Scotland, and Ireland.

Some people didn’t want James to become king. James was Catholic, but lots of people in Britain weren't. They were Protestant!

Since King James was Catholic, he gave all his Catholic buddies political power. This made the Protestants mad!

James tried to make things chill between Catholics and Protestants by saying everyone had to be nice to each other. Yet this only made them angrier!!!

NO!!!
NO!!!
Things were cool for a while, because James’ daughter was an Protestant, and she would be queen eventually. Her name was Mary, and she was married to a man named William. William was from the Netherlands.

Then, in 1688, James had a son. This meant Mary couldn’t become queen! Now the Protestants were panicking.
