It’s raining! It’s raining!
My Mama said it was raining cats and dogs outside!
And I believed her.
So I went to the window to wait and see all the cats and dogs
fly by in a rain parade!
But I didn’t see any. Not even one.
Or did I?
Instead, I saw big, fat rain drops playing noisily as they
cruised down my window. The rain made loud sloshing and
splashing sounds and the wind blew as if in chorus. I listened
hard because I could hear a steady rhythm of rain music.

I heard a loud pitat-tat-tat and high moaning as if the wind and
the rain were playing a Fall song together in their rain orchestra.
Each beat sounded loudly, creating a melodious rain jive as it beat
down on our roof.
Then the rhythm started to slow, as the wind died down, and the
rain became a trickle.
I think there is truly a rhythm to the rain.
When the raindrops fall, it almost sounds just like dance music and
I so, sooo want to dance in the rain.
Our black terrier, Alonzo, was dancing too. He raced round and
round in circles and barked and barked as Mama put on her brown
hat and white raincoat.

She was ready to take Alonzo out for his walk.
“Mama, can I come with you when you take Alonzo for his walk?”
I asked wiggling, just like Alonzo was doing now, since we both
were excited to go on this walk.
“Lily... you’d say, may I come with you…?” Mama corrected
bending down to look me in the face and watching my face as it
changed into a smile.
First I sat down on my bed, and pulled on my black boots. Then
I put on my blue hat and my yellow raincoat and took my blue
stripped umbrella, which was exactly like Mama's umbrella, from
where it stood, leaning against my desk, and I then I was ready.

Mama attached Alonzo’s leish to his collar and we left our house
and were off for our walk in the rain.
It was still raining, but not as hard as it was raining a few minutes
ago.
Mama and I opened our umbrellas and walked slowly down the
street, Alonzo in tow, toward the park, just two roads away from
our house.
When we reached the park, it had stopped raining.
Mama and I closed our umbrellas and walked Alonzo onto the
grass.
I ran out ahead of them, because I could see the caboose and the
turtle rides, just straight ahead of us and I wanted to get to them
as fast as I could.
