CHAPTER 1 : The Legend of Ravenwood Manor
It was a cold autumn afternoon when Jake and Sam first heard about Ravenwood Manor. The two boys sat in the corner booth of The Rusty Nail, a small diner on the edge of town, as the wind howled outside. The place was dimly lit, the smell of freshly brewed coffee mixing with the scent of pumpkin pie. Sam’s older brother, Tommy, had just gotten back from college and was telling them about the legend of the old, crumbling mansion that sat deep in the woods, miles away from the nearest road.
"You boys ever hear about Ravenwood?" Tommy asked, leaning
back in his chair, his voice low and conspiratorial.
Jake and Sam exchanged glances, intrigued. "No," Jake said, his curiosity piqued. "What’s that?"
Tommy grinned, the kind of grin that told them they were in for a good story. "Ravenwood Manor is haunted. Or so they say."
Sam rolled his eyes. "Haunted? Yeah, right."
Tommy leaned in, his voice dropping even lower. "I’m serious. They say a whole family disappeared there one night, just vanished into thin air.
No one knows what happened to them, but ever since, strange things have been happening around the manor."
Jake shivered, not entirely because of the draft that was creeping in through the old windows of the diner. "What kind of strange things?" he asked.
Tommy’s grin widened. "People have reported hearing voices coming from the house, even when no one’s inside. Lights flicker on and off, shadows move in the windows, and some say, on nights like tonight, you can hear screams echoing through the woods."
Sam scoffed, but Jake could see the flicker of fear in his eyes.
"That’s just a bunch of old wives' tales," Sam said, trying to sound
brave.
"Maybe," Tommy said, shrugging. "But I wouldn’t go near that place if I were you. People who’ve gone looking for answers at Ravenwood never come back quite the same."
Jake and Sam fell silent, letting the weight of Tommy’s words sink in. The wind outside grew louder, rattling the windows. For a moment, Jake could almost imagine the distant echo of a scream carried on the wind.
CHAPTER 2 : The Plan
The next day, the two boys couldn't stop thinking about the story. They had grown up in the small town of Ashbrook, where there wasn’t much excitement , But Ravenwood Manor—it was like something out of the scary stories they’d tell around the campfire. Jake’s imagination was running wild, picturing dark hallways, flickering candles, and the sound of footsteps following them through the shadows.
"Do you think it’s real?" Jake asked Sam as they walked home from school.
Sam shrugged, though his casual stance didn’t quite match the nervous look in his eyes. "I don’t know, but Tommy sure sounded
convinced."
Jake kicked a pebble down the sidewalk, deep in thought. "We should go."
Sam stopped in his tracks, his eyes widening. "Are you crazy? You heard what Tommy said people come back different from that place!"
Jake grinned, his adventurous spirit pushing him forward. "Exactly! Don’t you want to find out what’s really going on up there? Besides,
what if it’s just a dumb story and we get to laugh in everyone’s face? We’d be legends at school."
Sam hesitated, torn between his fear and the idea of becoming the town’s newest heroes. "I don’t know, man," he said. "What if something really is out there?"
Sam hesitated, torn between his fear and the idea of becoming the town’s newest heroes. "I don’t know, man," he said. "What if something really is out there?"
"We’ll go during the day," Jake said, determined now. "No ghosts haunt during the day, right?"
Sam looked unsure, but after a long pause, he finally sighed. "Fine. But if anything weird happens, we’re out of there, got it?"
Jake nodded, his heart racing with excitement. "Deal."
Chapter 3 : The Journey Begins
Saturday came quickly. Armed with flashlights, snacks, and their phones for "documentation", Jake and Sam set out early in the morning. The walk to Ravenwood was longer than they expected, the path winding deeper and deeper into the forest. The further they walked, the more uneasy Sam became.
You sure this is a good idea?" Sam asked, eyeing the trees around them as they pressed deeper into the woods.
Jake, who had been leading the way with confidence, slowed
slightly. He was feeling the weight of the trees closing in, the sky growing darker as clouds began to gather overhead. But he wasn’t about to back out now. "Yeah, it’ll be fine. We’re almost there."
An hour passed before the boys finally emerged from the thick underbrush and caught their first glimpse of the mansion.
Ravenwood Manor stood in the clearing like a forgotten relic of the past, its once-grand façade now crumbling and overrun with ivy. The windows were shattered, the front door hanging slightly ajar, creaking every so often in the wind. The roof sagged, and the stone walls were chipped and weathered. It was as if the mansion itself had been waiting for them.
"Whoa," Jake whispered, his voice full of awe and a hint of fear.
Sam swallowed hard. "This place is worse than I thought."
The air around them felt colder, as though the mansion was draining the warmth from the very atmosphere. Even the birds, which had chirped incessantly during their walk through the woods, were silent now.
"You still want to go in?" Sam asked, his voice shaking slightly.
Jake hesitated, but the curiosity was stronger than his fear. "Yeah. Let’s do it."
Chapter 4 : Inside the Manor
As the boys stepped through the broken front door, the wooden floor creaked beneath their feet. Inside, the house was even more unsettling than it had appeared from the outside. Dust clung to every surface, and cobwebs stretched across the ceiling like ghostly veils. The air was thick with the smell of mildew and decay.
"
Let’s stick together," Sam whispered, his eyes darting around the
grand foyer.
.Jake nodded, his flashlight sweeping over the walls. The mansion’s interior had once been magnificent, with a sweeping staircase
that led to the upper floors and grand chandeliers that now hung broken and lifeless. Portraits of stern-looking people lined the walls, their eyes seeming to follow the boys as they moved deeper into the house.
"Who do you think lived here?" Jake asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Sam glanced nervously at one of the portraits. "Whoever they were, they didn’t look too friendly."
The boys explored cautiously, their flashlights casting long, eerie shadows across the dilapidated rooms. Every now and then. they'd
hear a noise, an unexplained creak or the distant sound of something moving, but they convinced themselves it was just the house settling.
They ventured through the library, where rows of dusty old books lined the shelves, and into the dining room, where a massive table still stood, as though waiting for a family that would never return.
"This place is seriously creepy," Sam muttered.
Jake nodded in agreement, but there was something about the manor that fascinated him. It was as though the house had a
story to tell, a secret that had been buried for years, waiting for someone to uncover it.
As they moved deeper into the house, they found a narrow staircase leading down into the basement. The air grew colder as they descended, and the smell of damp earth filled their noses. At the bottom of the stairs, they found a heavy wooden door, its surface scratched and worn.
"Should we open it?" Jake asked, his hand hovering over the rusty handle.
Sam shook his head. "No way. This is the part where the bad stuff
happens."
But before Sam could stop him, Jake pushed the door open, revealing a dark, cavernous room. Inside, the walls were lined with strange symbols, and in the center of the room was an old, rotting wooden table, covered in dust and what looked like old, dried wax.
"What is this place?" Sam whispered, stepping cautiously into the room.
Jake's eyes widened as he shone his flashlight on the walls, trying to make sense of the strange markings. "I don't know, but it looks like someone was into some weird stuff."
