Hi, I'm Millie and I want to become the first monkey president so our jungle can be safe for all animals.

This is president Lion. He is taking over the jungle and using his power to destroy all animals so lions can rule the world.

The first step for Millie to become president is to travel the jungle and let reporters know he's thinking about running... but shhh! We need to make sure it is off the record and unofficial.

The second step for Millie to become president is to start preparing years in advance. He needs to raise money, create a campaign organization, and a campaign strategy.

Between the months of January and June is when the primary election occurs. A primary election is when people vote to pick their favorite person to run in a big election later. The primary election is an inter-party election, so Millie will be running against animals with similar beliefs. In order to win the Primary, Millie must win delegates. A delegate is a person from a political party who goes to a big meeting to show support for a candidate they like.

Millie is traveling all over the world to win the popular vote from each state so he can win the delegates.

Should we vote by doing a caucus?

What's a caucus?

A caucus is when citizens gather in public forums to openly discuss candidates and then vote.

Sure!

There are 2 types of primaries: open and closed primaries. An open primary is when you do not have to be registered member of a specific political party to vote for a candidate running in the election. A closed primary is in order to vote for a candidate you must be a registered member of that particular party. 

Now that the Primary election phase is over we are moving into the national convention phase. This convention will happen in July and August. In the past this is where the decision was made as to the party’s nomination. But in present day this is more like a pep rally and promotes unity behind the candidate.
