George was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia in 1732.

George was the son of Augustine and Mary Ball Washington and grew up with nine siblings.
Wow! That's a lot of siblings!

George spent most of his youth near Fredericksburg and enjoyed learning and being outside, but most of all he loved to travel.

One day in 1751, George and his brother, Lawrence, traveled to Barbados to try and find a cure for his illness.
Unfortunately, they couldn't find one and George ended up getting smallpox so they had to go back home.

Home sweet home!
With a lot of training and combat, George became a great soldier and leader. Eventually, George was promoted to commander of the Continental Army. He stayed commander all throughout the American Revolution.

In 1759, George got married to Martha Washington and they moved to Mount Vernon with her two children. They were happily married for many years.
