After the teacher explained racism to the classroom, a first-grade class desire to bring about change went into action to stop racism by making their school more inclusive.

They set up a lemonade stand to raise money. They raised $500, which allowed them to purchase several books for their classroom, representing diversity. Books in which all kids can see themselves in the images. 

The idea of bringing more diverse books that featured people of color into the classroom was a major success, and parents, teachers, and the community organized a book drive. They believe that a book drive that focuses on diversity will help people understand one another. 

The book drive exceeded expectations, gathering hundreds of donated books on diversity. The book drive was so successful that the school's library benefited from the books in many ways. 

The lemonade stand was an unexpected business lesson, coupled with reaching their primary goal of bringing more attention and diverse books into the classroom. 

The kids learned more about the importance of diverse literature, diversity, social skills, language skills, and decision-making. 

As a result of one caring and ambitious classroom and the book drive, had a direct effect on the community, and consequently, the media got involved and monetary donations were pouring in to purchase new books. The book drive is slated to be an annual event for the entire school to promote diversity and inclusion in the classrooms.
