"Hello everyone, my name is Bauu. I’m a young boy who speaks Spanish, and I’ve just started in this classroom. Sometimes, I feel a little out of place. My cultural background and the language I speak make it hard for me to connect with others. But deep down, I cherish the traditions that shape who I am."

Bauu sat quietly at his desk, looking around the classroom. The other kids were laughing and talking, but Bauu didn’t feel like he belonged. His classmates spoke English, but Bauu spoke Spanish, and sometimes, it felt like no one understood him.

One day, Mrs. Rivera, the teacher, noticed that Bauu wasn’t joining in. She smiled warmly and asked, “Bauu, would you like to help me with something special for our class next week?” Bauu looked up, unsure. Mrs. Rivera continued, “We’re going to have a day where everyone shares something from their home. It could be a special dish, a story, or something important to you. What do you think?”
Bauu felt nervous. What could he share? His classmates didn’t know anything about Spanish food or traditions. But then, he thought of his abuela (grandmother) and her delicious tortilla española, a traditional Spanish dish. Bauu remembered how much he loved helping his abuela cook in the kitchen, and he smiled. “I think I know what I will share,” he said softly.

The next week, Bauu’s classmates brought in all kinds of dishes. There were pizzas, salads, and even homemade cakes. Bauu was still a little worried. Would his dish be too different? But when it was his turn, he stood up proudly, holding a big bowl of his abuela’s tortilla española.

Mrs. Rivera smiled and said, “This is Bauu’s special dish. It’s called tortilla española. Bauu, why don’t you tell us about it?”
