I dedicate this book to my family and friends.

Once there was a little girl named Lilly. She was from North Carolina. She loved the bright sun on her face.

Today was her first day of school. Lilly was so excited about going to first grade with her friends Maddie and Alison. But Alison was not always nice. Sometimes she would have tantrums. So, for the most part, Lilly played with Maddie, because she was always nice.

On this day, Lilly met her new teacher. His name was Mr. Smith. After meeting Mr. Smith, Lilly looked at the class list. Lilly was with Alison. Lilly thought, “no!”, but there was nothing she could do about it.

It was reading time. Mr. Smith read Harry Potter to the class for the next hour. Then it was math. Lilly loved math; she already knows division! After the exhausting first day, she walked home with Maddie.
She did her homework and as she was wrapping up, her Dad came home with a bad look on his face. Lilly went and gave her dad a big hug and kiss.

Ten minutes later, her Mom was home and Dad called for a family meeting. Lilly’s dad had bad news; he had lost his job. Lilly and her family spoke about what this meant, and it meant that they had to move…to Iowa!

Lilly was so upset that she cried the entire night. The next morning, she called and told Maddie and Alison the bad news. And then she had to help the family pack and load the moving truck.

She quickly made two new friends, Lucy and Stacy. And the cool part was that Lilly was in the same class as Lucy and Stacy. Their first class together was math. And then even got to do division!
