Liam loved winter, but today was colder than usual. As he walked down the street, he could feel the icy wind on his face. The trees were covered in snow, and the river was starting to freeze.

At the park, he stopped by his favorite tree, the one with the big green leaves in summer. Now, its branches were bare. He had never seen the park so quiet before.

Just then, he heard a voice. 

“Liam!” It was Emma, his best friend. They planned to meet at the park, but he thought she wouldn’t come because of the cold.

“I almost stayed home,” Emma said, shivering. “But I wanted to practice my speech for class.”

Liam smiled. “Let’s sit by the lake. It’s really deep, but it looks beautiful in winter.”

Emma nodded. She took out a small bag and handed him a cookie. “Here, a little something to warm us up. It’s a sweet treat.”

Liam took a bite and laughed. “Now, this is the best part of winter!”
