I am a false killer whale, one of the many that roams the vast, blue ocean with my pod. We are strong, fast, and clever—traits that keep us at the top of the food chain. But even we face dangers. One memory sticks with me, a time when I came face-to-face with a threat unlike any other.

                 INTRODUCTION

It started as a regular day, swimming with my family, hunting the schools of fish we love so much. We were far from shore, deeper into the open water. Suddenly, there was a shift in the current, a change in the water’s rhythm. I could feel something wasn’t right. The other members of my pod were nervous too. Then, without warning, I saw it: the dark shapes of nets, glinting under the surface. We were caught, trapped in a fisherman’s web.
