After being kicked out of class by Ms. Huth for falling 

asleep countless time, Mitch decided to become a 

homebound student. Mitch had to find some way to 

get through the hardest unit in environmental 

science. He thought what better way to pass this unit 

on public land preservation than to go on his very 

own field trip.

He made a plan to go around the world in a small loop 

and scope out 4 public lands that were preserved by 

the government. Before beginning the trip he figured 

out one of his friends Rachel was failing 

Environmental Science with a 32% so he decided he 

was going to help her out and let her come visit the 

public lands too.

They decide to start off their trip right in North 

Carolina at the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a great 

scene, But it was sad to know that recently they cut 

funds for this beautiful place. One of the animals they 

saw the most was the snapping turtle. The coolest 

thing about the Blue Ridge Parkway was the 

mountains. Currently there are not really any 

environmental issues going on at the Parkway. The 

Parkway was free other than the camping which was 

$16 dollars. They traveled in an RV for 172 Miles to 

get the the Parkway and Bought cheap food to eat 

while traveling. 

After staying the night at the camp grounds they woke 

up early to start traveling to our next public land. 

They started driving towards Michigan to the Isle 

Royale national forest adjacent to Lake Superior, a 18 

hour drive, 1081 miles away. After driving non stop 

there was a $50 fee for them to stay the night and 

explore for the whole day. Timber Wolves were the 

most amazing animal they saw at this national forest. 

They recently just got over the endangerment of the 

Timber Wolves. Which was a big environmental issue 

at the time.
