At the time, my cousin and I were only in first grade.
At the time, we had just been learning how to “stop, drop and roll.”
At the time, my parents also taught me to call 911 in case of an emergency.
I just didn’t know how it could happen to one of my closest relatives.

started. All I heard were sirens, lots and lots of sirens. I saw that most of the
cars on the road were pulling over.

My dad, had just bought hot dogs from the Hot Dog Tracks for us to eat.
My siblings and I watched as my cousin, with her babysitter, speed
walked down the street.

with her tiara in her left hand while her babysitter had her right hand. Her left foot was
missing a slipper that came with the princess costume.

looked worried. She kept turning back to the house, then at us.

until the ambulance came to our house. Firefighters were
still trying to put out the fire. My dad and I saw flames from
the kitchen window.
