Once upon a time, I was not able to read and
write
Before it was a common thing to go back and
forth by taking a flight
I escaped on foot or sometimes on a horse
You know who I am of course,
The famous abolitionist
For all people to be equal was once a wish
Poor or rich, I wanted America to be more
than black or white
The country is better now, but I existed when
it was loveless
I am Frederick Douglas

I was born in 1820 in the state of Maryland.
I'm known for giving fellow slaves a helping hand.
I escaped for freedom in 1849.
By then I was given the nickname Moses.
For I was chose to lead people out of slavery
Even through the scariest times I displayed bravery.
I used the secret code when traveling to the
underground railroad.
After slaves were free I was still a live.
This was way before many people could drive.
the secret to a long life is to love all man!
I am Harriett Tubman

I was born a free man, able to read and write unlike
most.
One day an awful tragedy happened to me. What was
about to happen, I could never see.
I was tricked and sold a slave! For twelve awful years I
wasn't allowed to see my family.
Until one glorious day, I was rescued by a fellow friend.
I soon returned home to my family. I became an author.
I even wrote a book called Twelve Years A slave.
The book I wrote was and still is as prized as the famous
World Cup.
I am Solomon Northup.

I believed in equal education and an equal law system.
In order to accomplish you must have great wisdom.
The young boys and girls that's who
Listen closely, these words I say are true
I was the first in my family to graduate from law school
I believed in implementing the Golden Rule
Treat others how you want to be treated
Read it and learn
I soon became a judge in the Supreme Court of law
Great change came along
Although, I cant take full credit, only partial
I am Thurgood Marshall

I had a troubled childhood
So I turned to poetry
I wrote until my pencil was no longer sharp
Poetry I wrote some may say sounded like an angel
playing a harp
I told stories of my past and present that resulted into
history
A way to escape missery
I won over eight awards for my writing
I wrote three books even plays
I was a author, poet, actress, dancer and singer
My poetry lives on
You can always read my poetry if your happy or feeling
blue
I am Maya Angelou

I am a poet who lived through the Harlem Renaissance
There was singing and dancing! Movie stars and flashing lights
Young boys turn into men being cool playing the blues and jazz
Straight from the south of New Orleans!
A place as beautiful my grandma talked about in her dreams!
The same boys that used to shoot marble and little girls that
used to play hopscotch all hum and sing to the same tune!
From the street of Bourbon to Harlem stories are told
I existed back then when
Gambling first started happening, better hope you don't loose
I am none other than the famous Langston Hughes!

I believed in self defense
I hung with an infamous clan known as The Black Panthers
We believed in justice for African Americans
Some may argue
I didn't chose my words wisely
Some may say violence is never the answer
It took me sometime to come to realization
For some of my acts helped civilization
I soon discovered things for myself
and joined no other than Martin Luther King Jr. in his justice for
peace
Unfortunately there was a bullet so I didn't get to see what
happened next...
I am Malcolm X

I am a singer, writer and activist of Civil Rights
For I was a big star under the lime light
I created a new sound
The sound could be heard all around
Before I moved to Hollywood
I lived in a different neighborhood
My childhood was a little different than most
But thank him almighty I made it
I was taught to turn your dreams into reality and see
where it will take you
One must never give up
Never let your dreams become torn
I am none other than Lena Horne!
