It was an early spring morning when a young
girl planted a pot of sunflower seeds. She
was so excited to watch dozens of
sunflowers sprout because she was
currently learning about the plant cycle in
her third grade class. Although it would be
a few weeks until she would see a sprout,
she could not wait!

Every morning before school she would water
and wait with anticipation.

Every morning before school she would
water the plant and wait with
anticipation.
One morning when she walked out to her
backyard, she saw a small green sprout
popping out of the soil. She squealed with
excitement and continued to have a smile on
her face all day when sharing the news with
friends and family.

Over the next few days she continued to check
on the sunflowers progress and once the first
seed sprouted to 3 inches she named the
sunflower Sophia.

As Sophia the sunflower grew taller and taller
everyday, the young girl realized that none of
the other seeds had began to sprout and
started to worry. She worried that Sophia
would not have friends to play and grow with.

Even though Sophia was growing alone, she
was still happy to soak up the sun every time
the sun was shining.

One gloomy rainy Wednesday, Sophia could
not seem to put a smile on her face. She felt
lonely as ever and longed for a close friend.

Just as the sun finally peaked out of the clouds,
Sophia heard a faint buzzing noise in the
distance. She looked up and down and all
around to find where the sound was coming
from.

Suddenly a small gust of wind pushed her
around and she bumped into a small yellow
and black thing. Since Sophia was still a young
sunflower, everything she saw was new to her.
