Once, long ago, there was a small
village just beyond a very beautiful
forest. The village was surrounded by
so many trees and wild grasses that it
could not be seen from any other
villages nearby.

In the farthest corner of the village
there was a small patch of land where
a poor farmer lived.

At the end of the farmer's patch of
land was a boundary that separated the
forest from the village. Just in front of
the boundary sat a magical tree.

After a long day of work the poor
farmer would walk to the tree and
watch it sparkle and shine. It
reminded him of his late wife and how
she could outshine the sun with her
beauty. The tree comforted the
farmer and gave him hope.

The other villagers saw how much the poor
farmer admired the tree. They were jealous
that the farmer could admire such beauty
that out shined every jewel they owned when
he had less money than them. The villagers
came up with a plan they knew the farmer
could never foil.

There in the village along with the other
villagers lived four children. While the other
villagers were discussing the plan the children
thought about how nice the farmer was. He
gave them apples even when he didn't have
enough for himself. When they heard what the
villagers were going to do, they ran to find the
farmer. However by the time they reached the
edge of the village, the sky had darkened and
the children returned to their homes.

One day when the farmer went to barter in a
nearby village. The jealous villagers went to
the magical tree that sparkled and shined
very brightly. They built a pile made up of
wood and dry grass. When the pile was done,
they started a fire and quickly returned to
their homes.

The villagers did not care to consider the
windy weather. When the farmer returned to
the village, not only was the magical tree
destroyed, but so were the surrounding trees
and plants.
