The habitats of common chimpanzees can be
found in the West and Central Africa.

Chimpanzees are known for their dark black coats
of hair,
their hairless sole-feet, hands, and face.

Chimpanzees love to play. They use their long arms
to climb on trees.

Chimpanzees live in communities so that they
can be stronger and can defend and attack
together.

A female chimpanzee protects her baby
chimps. The chimp holds onto its mother as
she travels with it everywhere.

Chimpanzees usually walk on all fours, but
they can also stand and walk upright.

Chimpanzees have thumbs and toes, which
are helpful for them to grab objects
easily.

They can often be seen touching each other
lovingly. You may see them kiss and hold hands
as well.

It is very common to see a lot of kids
gathered at the chimpanzee section at a
zoo.

A Chimpanzee is always swinging, jumping, and
pulling themselves up tree branches.

In the whole animal kingdom, chimpanzees
come closest to looking like humans.

They use sticks to find termites and rocks to
crack open nuts. They can learn new things.

Chimpanzees communicate with each other
by panting, barking or drumming.

They show friendship by combing each others
furs and pulling out dirt and bugs.

Chimpanzees are omnivores, meaning they
eat both plants and animals.

Chimpanzees love bananas!

People cut down trees in their habitat. The
chimps have no place to go. This makes them
endangered.

Chimpanzees quickly grow to be strong. They can
be very dangerous.

The biggest and strongest male always leads
the group.

Sometimes male chimpanzees fight with
each other.
