     Once upon a time on a gloomy hill, 

there sat a dirty, abandoned house. The 

cracked windows were bordered by the 

dingy curtains, and under those windows 

were rusty floors. Many creatures lurked 

through this house, but no one stood out 

except for one spry, soon to be hero. He 

was...

     ...a tiny mouse. All of the other mice 

called him Mr. Squeaky, another word 

for 'savior' in Squeakish. His name may 

make him sound strong and powerful. 

Yet, actually he was just a scrawny, 

little mouse. Poor Mr. Squeaky had one 

beastly enemy: the Rude Crude Cat! 

This detestable feline was always 

starting trouble with the little mice on 

the hill.    

     One night on a full moon, the cat 

sauntered up the hill and into the 

abandoned house.

     The mice were gathered on a small 

table eating cheese when they were 

stopped right in their tracks.

     "Come here, little mice!" she hissed 

in a shrill meow. "I'm quite hungry!"

"She 

won't get

me!" 

     The various mice huddled in corners 

abruptly stopped nibbling cheese and 

scurried to safety. Obstinate Mr. 

Squeaky was the only one who decided 

to take a stand.

     "No thank you," Mr. Squeaky said 

bluntly as he continued munching.
