Grasses waving and hissing.
But he looks around for a moment,
And notices somebody’s missing!
His dog has disappeared!
He was just there before…
Jack jumps out of his bed
And races out of the door.

Tell everyone to look.
And if the dog's still lost
He’ll keep looking in every nook!

On many small slips of paper.
“If you see my dog around,
Please call, thanks. Later!”
Then going down the street
He slides a slip underneath
Every door of every house
In Crocker-Benny Heath!
Returning to his house,
He goes on to his computer.
Signing in to his email,
He tells his best bud, Scooter.

Framing his dog’s face.
And with a stapler in hand,
He rushes out at quick pace.
Walking around the town,
Pole by pole by pole,
He is stopped by a man.
“Hi! I’m Jim Cole.”

5

A man of your age
Walking alone through the town,
Clutching the same paper page.”
Jim Cole smiles at Jack,
“You look very sad.
I think you need some help.
Asking for it’s not bad.”

6

And Jack explains his problem
Jim listens, then said,
“Where’re your folks? Can I call ‘em?”
“But Jim Cole, sir, I said,”
Jack starts to reply,
“I did all that I can for now.”
And Jack begins to cry.

“It’s going to be okay, I’d wager.
I graduated from college last year,
Biology in science was my major.”
Jack looks confused, and asks,
“To what is that of use?”
“Well, I know of cell signaling.
And here's what I’ve deduced.”
“What is cell signaling,
Mr. Jim Cole, sir?”
And added with haste,
“The basics, I’d prefer.”

Are a very good way
To let many people know
Of your issue today.
“You don’t have to target
One person in the crowd
Instead you’re talking to many,
To all, clear and loud!”
“That special signal is
The endocrine kind.
The ones that travel,
Wander far and wide.”
Jack gawked at his paper
Then got up off the floor.
“Well what about the slips
I slid under the doors?”

9

The signal sent near.
While not going too far,
It’s anywhere but here.
The signal travels around
To numerous neighboring abodes
Until the proper response
Is eventually bestowed.”

Was email my friends.
Is that also a form,
Or does your lesson here end?”
