Halloween has its origins in Ireland, Britain, and Northern Europe. It was originally
called All Hallows Eve. This holiday started
over 2000 years ago.
El Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a Aztec holiday that was celebrated
over 3000 and continues today. It was
celebrated in the Aztec empire and now
is celebrated in Mexico and parts of the US.

All Hallows Eve was a day when the
boundaries of the living and dead were
said to blur, and that on that night
spirits roamed the earth.





The Day of Dead is a day to celebrate and
remember the dead. It is said that the dead are
given permission to visit relatives and friends on
this day and to experience life again.

Halloween is celebrated on October 30th by children and
adults. They all get dressed up in costumes and go door to
door asking for candy. They also carve pumpkins and have
party's with lots of foods and some activities.


Day of the Dead is celebrated by preparing special
foods for the deceased. The people of Latin America fill
the streets with candy, flowers, skulls and have
parades. The families make altars and put offerings on
it. It is said that the spirits come on October 31st and
leave on November 2nd.


The Pumpkin is a symbol of Halloween


The Bat is also a symbol of Halloween.
Ghosts can be said to be a symbol of Halloween. So
are other costumes.


Skeletons are a very important
symbol for Day of the Dead.

Many make these lovely Papel Picado's
which are paper designs that are made
from cutting them and such.





Pumpkins are eaten on Halloween, but also used for designed.
Fruits such as apples are used for games & smaller treats!
Many eat sweets such as pies & other bakery items.
Candy is very well known when when people say Halloween.
Candy is passed out to children around the area.








Day of the Dead is known for having its many colorful fruits!

Pan de Muerto is a bread type pastry that many people enjoy!
