Larvae / Caterpillar Stage
During this stage the caterpillar will feed on plants. They
eat a lot and grow very quickly! Just like you when you
grow bigger and need new clothes to fit you, caterpillars
also need new clothes in the form of new skin. They
shed their skin at least four times during this stage. Each
time the old skin splits open and the caterpillar crawls
out with its new skin.

Pupae / Chrysalis Stage
When a caterpillar is fully grown, they attach themselves to a
twig and grow a chrysalis. Inside of this chrysalis, the
caterpillar is still alive and morphs into its adult state, a
butterfly. Morphing involves a sort of melting process and then
reforming into a butterfly. All that eating done when it was a
caterpillar was stored as energy to help morph.

Once the butterfly has completely grown within the chrysalis it
comes out crumpled and damp. Just like you when you were
a baby! Though a little different to you, it hangs upside down
for two hours to pump blood into its wings and wait for the
wings to dry.
After that it is ready to fly away!
