Alexandrov has been
always famous for its
outstanding people.

The Grand Duke Basil III was the founder of
Alexandrovskaya Sloboda.
At the beginning of the XVIth century he ordered to
build here a magnificent palace made of white stone
and red brick.

Basil III visited his country
residence in Alexandrovskaya
Sloboda very often. He received
here foreign ambassadors!

The first Russian tsar Ivan the
Terrible made
Alexandrovskaya Sloboda no
more than the capital of the
Russian state, the rival of
Moscow! He had been living
here for seventeen years!

Ivan the Terrible loved the
place and would have never
left it if he had not killed his
favourite son and heir Ivan
in Sloboda.

Alexey Mikhailovich
Romanov visited
Alexandrovskaya
Sloboda many times.
He founded a convent
there and made a lot
of large donations.

Alexey Romanov's son
Peter the Great didn't
forget about the place.

On the 15th of
September 1689 the
Great tsar Peter I
with his mother
Natalia Kirillovna and
his first wife Evdokiya
Fyodorovna and with
his court visited
Alexandrovskaya
Sloboda during his
"funny" march.

In 1727 Peter's
daughter Elizabeth
was forced to go to
Alexandrovskaya
Sloboda. She had
been here for ten
years.

Elizabeth Petrovna
became a godmother to a
lot of new-borns in
Sloboda. From here she
went to Moscow to take
the throne.
