I am sure, you have, and in this book I will tell you about the people,
who glorify Alexandrov.
And my children will help me.

        Russia is famous for its talented and intelligent people.
               And our town Alexandrov is not an exception.
              Some of these people were born in Alexandrov,
the others worked here and their names have glorified our town.

Andronik Timofeevich Nevezha
was a typographer and a follower
of Ivan Fedorov’s ideas.
He founded the first
provincial printing house in
Russia in Alexandrovskaya Sloboda.

Here he printed
the first school
book of that time
“Psaltyr Slobodskaya”.

Zubov’s merchant family and Baranov’s merchant family
opened textile manufactories in Alexandrov and its region.
Their chintz became widely known not only in Russia, but also abroad.
In 1847 Nikolai I granted the right to print
the state emblem on their products.
This right was granted for their contributions to
the development of the Russian Empire.

The Zhizhimontovs were one of the oldest
dynasties of blacksmiths.
They were one of the founders
of handicraft industry in Alexandrov.
At the end of the 18th century
there were 43 smithies in our town.
That’s why a blacksmith anvil
decorates the blazon of Alexandrov.

Zubov Vasiliy Pavlovich was
born in Alexandrov.
He was a Russian art historian,
a researcher of the ancient
Russian architecture.
Vasiliy Pavlovich is an author
of more than 200 scientific works.
He took part in restoration
of many Cathedrals.

Denezhkin Gennadiy Alexeevich was born
in Karabanovo, Alexandrov region.
He is a Russian engineer of military equipment.
Denezhkin is one of the developers
of the system called “Grad”. He is an author
of more than 256 inventions. Gennadiy Alexeevich
has got a lot of medals for his outstanding achievements
in the development of the defense industry.
