It was a week after Jake's best friend, Caleb, had died. 

He died because he fell off Jake's roof where they had 

been playing. Jake's parents had told them not to but 

they did anyways. Jake remembers Caleb's funeral. 

Caleb's friends Jenny, Jake, Benny and Izzac were at his 

funeral. Jenny is a very shy girl. Jake is a very outgoing, 

courageous, and confident boy. Benny is a coward that is 

scared of ghosts. Izzac likes video games and has very 

rich parents. Jake was still thinking about Caleb when his 

parents knocked on his door and asked him if he was 

okay. He said he was fine, but the tone of his voice said 

different.

His parents knew he was still sad about Caleb so 

they said tomorrow they would go to his favorite 

restaurant, Zebra Stripes. The reason it was called 

Zebra Stripes is because it serves a sundae with 

fudge and vanilla ice cream called zebra stripes. 

He was a little bit happier, but he was still very 

sad. "What do you want?" asked mom. "I want 

zebra stripes." said Jake in a sad, low voice. 

"Come on, it's your favorite restaurant." said dad. 

"Fine." said Jake. Then they went inside. Jake got 

zebra stripes, his dad got buffalo wings, and his 

mother got caesar salad. Then they went home.

All through the night Jake kept hearing a voice 

saying "Why didn't you help me?". He thought 

maybe it was a prank from the next door 

neighbors so he continued on sleeping, but 

then he heard it some more so he went down 

stairs to check on it. There was nothing down 

there except a gleaming shadow of a ghost. 

Then he realized if Caleb fell off my roof does 

that mean that he thinks it's my fault?
