"Hello dear! Are you ready for work today?" I hear
mom ask from the kitchen.
"Oh yes, honey. I should be home around four, as
soon as the bank closes." dad answers.
"Alright dear, I hope you have a great day! I love
you." mom replies quickly.
It's the same old day, they tell each other they love
them. And then dad leaves for work and mom leaves
to go to the hospital. But somehow, this day seems
different.

You arrive home a little earlier than normal. I
begin to worry.
"Daddy! Daddy! What's wrong?" I ask you.
"Oh honey, don't you worry about it. You're too
young to understand." you reply.
I know you're not telling the truth, and I will
find out what is wrong one way or another.

I go into my room and think about what you
said.
"You're too young to understand.." those words
keep repeating themselves over and over again
in my head.
What could it be? Did I do something wrong?
Did something happen with mom? Did
something bad happen at work?
I need to know.

I hear mom come home so I sneak my way to
the kitchen door. I can hear you guys talking.
"Honey, the stock market crashed today. We
lost everything. I don't know if I can keep the
house." dad says.
"What are we going to do?! All of our money is
gone!! How will we live?! How will our
daughter finish school?!?!" mom says.
I slowly creep off into my room and cry myself
to sleep.
