Hi! My name is William the Water Molecule, but some people call me W.M. for short! Today we are going to explore what happens to me while phases change. To learn more, follow me! (Also, keep an eye out for words that are different colors, those are the important vocab words!)

2
Sometimes, I am a solid. This occurs when I reach myfreezing point. Changing from a liquid to a solid is called freezing. My intermolecular forces are strongest while I am a solid. This is because in solids, the particles are very closely packed in. For this reason, solids are incompressible and have a very high density!

3

The next change I experience is evaporation. Evaporation occurs when I change from a liquid state to a gas state. This is due to an increase in temperature, or otherwise refered to as the boiling point. While in gas form, I have extremely weak intermolecular forces. This is because the particles are free to move around. I am able to occupy any space available to me while I am a gas!
4
The final change that I will teach you about today is sublimation. This is what happens when I change from a solid to a gas. It is an endothermic phase transition that occurs at temperatures and pressures below a substance's triple point in its phase diagram.

5
Now it is time for me to describe a few more things in detail for you! Repulsion between molecules, or the hydrophobic effect that they have, is when nonpolar solutions aggregate in an aqueous solutioin and exclude water molecules.
