Once upon a time... most of the people of England were farmers that lived in small towns and spent their days farming on fields that they did not own. They were sad and tired of working in the troublesome weather all year long.

2
The owners of the land that farmers worked on were known as aristocrats. They lived happily in beautiful manor houses. Servants raised their children and did their work around the house.

3
For centuries, the farmers and the landowners had depended on one another to make a living. However, things would soon change when ideas of grand mechanical innovations spread through Europe!
4
Inventors found creative ways to make use of Earth's natural energy. New machines that that ran on coal, steam, and water were created. These machines made great replacements for hand-powered tools. They did the work for people cheaper and faster. It was a miracle!

5
These new inventions caused a change in the working atmosphere for the people of England. Instead of working at home or in the fields, people began working in factories.
6
In the textile mills, the mechanical era began. A machine would be attached to a spinning wheel and do the work of fifty people! Items such as clothing and food became more affordable.

7
Locomotives and steamboats were soon created and allowed for items made in the factories of Europe to be sold half way around the world!

8
People moved away from their old homes to new towns that revolved around machine-making to start their new lives in the factory business. A new class of people formed as a result of this transition--the working class. These people produced goods from the factories.
