Once upon a time there was an evil king in charge of Russia. His name was Czar Nicholas the II. All of his people hated him because he did not take care of them.

Meanwhile, a man named Karl Marx wrote a short book about his ideas of Communism. This book quickly gained popularity and his ideas became known as Marxism.

Communism is a type of government where everyone is equal instead of having rich and poor.

Leon Trotsky used the ideas of Marxism to try and lead the Russians to a better life by overthrowing the king.

Joseph Stalin was planning to take power after the Russians overthrew the Czar. He was ruthless and willing to hurt anyone who stood in his way.

Even though Joseph Stalin was evil, the Russians still liked him because he was using propaganda. Propaganda is information given to citizens to tricking them into believing what you want them to believe. This information was often shared through the newspaper.
