This book is dedicated to: Myself.
In this unit I didn't really learn anything interesting. Subduction was cool, I guess. Nothing was really new.

Layers of the earth
There are four main layers of the Earth. These layers are called: the Crust (the surface), the Mantle, the Outer Core, and the Inner Core.
The crust is made up of several slabs of rock that float on the mantle. These slabs are known as tectonic plates.
These plates shift around on top of the mantle due to convection currents. These currents are formed by liquids in the mantle changing temperatures.

Continental Drift
Continental Drift started off as a theory by a brilliant German Man known as: /\lfred Wegner. He said that our 7 continents were once part of a super continent named: Pangaea.
He said this due to 4 different reasons:
*Africa and south america fit perfectly together
*fossils of the same type creature were found in two place on opposite sides of the world
*Certain mountain Ranges lined up perfectly together
*the same types of rocks were found on two sides of the world
But sadly, no one believed his theory. This is due to his lack of an explanation of HOW it happened.

Sea-Floor Spreading
The seafloor spreading Theory was proposed by the American Harry Hess.
He theorized that the ocean floor contracted into the land, then expanded. Thus changing the position of certain continental plates. He came to this conclusion due to realizing that the the continents were moving by a centimeter every Year.

Plate Tectonics
Plate tectonics is the theory that the outer rigid layer of the earth is divided into a couple of dozen "plates" that move around across the earth's surface relative to each other, like slabs of ice on a lake.

10
Convergent Boundary
A convergent boundary is when two tectonic plates push towards each other.Forming structures such as: Volcanoes, Mountain ranges, trenches etc.
