Public Christianity began on the day of Pentecost, as described in Acts Chapter two. One could debate this date. For example, one could say that Christianity began the day Jesus rose from the dead, or one could say that Christianity began the day Jesus was born, or the day he began his public ministry. Since “Christianity” is not defined precisely in the New Testament, one can always debate the day it started. However, this debate would probably not be a fruitful one.

Christianity started about 2000 years ago in Judea with Jesus Christ and His faithful group of disciples.

Christianity spread initially from Jerusalem throughoutthe Near East, into places such as Aram, Assyria, Mesopotamia, Phoenicia, Asia Minor, Jordan and Egypt. In the4th century it was successively adopted as the state religion by Armenia in 301, Georgia in 319, the Aksumite Empire in325, and the Roman Empire in 380.

The Christian holy book is the Bible. It is divided into the Old and New Testaments. The New Testament explains how God sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to restore the broken relationship between people and God which had been caused by human wrong doing.

Today the concept of “Jewish Christians” may sound like a confusion of two religions. However, to understand the origin of Christianity, one must begin with the population of Jewish Christians who lived during Jesus’ lifetime.
