Alpha-Alpha particles consist of two protons and two neutrons bound together into a particle identical to a helium nucleus.
Beta- Beta radiation may travel meters in air and is moderately penetrating
Beta-emitting contaminants may be harmful if deposited internally.
Gamma- In medicine, gamma ray sources are used for cancer treatment and for diagnostic purposes. X rays are emitted during atomic processes involving energetic electrons.

3

Half-Life - is the time required for the amount to fall to half it initial value
4
Radioactive Dating uses -
1. used to determine the age of organic material by measuring the radioactivity of its carbon content.
2.estimating the age of an object by measuring the amounts of various radioisotopes in it.
3.to estimate how long ago rocks formed, and to infer the ages of fossils contained within those rocks.

5
Fission - the action of dividing or splitting something into two or more parts
Uses - Generating electricity requires very different technologies and engineering.
2. I releases energy.

6

Fission
Fusion
Splits atoms into two
Emerging separate elements
Both nuclear reactions that produce energy
the splitting of a heavy, unstable nucleus into two lighter nuclei,
two light nuclei combine together releasing vast amounts of energy.
7
Nuclear Disasters
Fukushime - Following a major earthquake, a 15-metre tsunami disabled the power supply and cooling of three Fukushima Daiichi reactors, causing a nuclear accident on 11 March 2011. All three cores largely melted in the first three days.
Chernobyl - a reactor core is damaged and significant amounts of radioactivity are released in 1986.
The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, a Japanese nuclear plant with seven units, the largest single nuclear power station in the world, was completely shut down for 21 months following an earthquake in 2007
8
Alpha - ionizing radiation consisting of alpha particles, emitted by some substances undergoing radioactive decay.
Beta - High-energy electrons, carrying a negative charge, that are sent out by some radioactive nuclei.
Gamma - a photon emitted by an electron as a result of internal conversion.
Fission - either a nuclear reaction or a radioactive decay process in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts.
Fusion - the process or result of joining two or more things together to form a single entity.
Half-Life - he time taken for the radioactivity of a specified isotope to fall to half its original value.
