On September 23, 1846 Urbain Le Verrier discovered what is now the planet Neptune.
2
Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun.
3
Neptune has 13 moons. The ten largest are Triton, Nereid, Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus, Halimede, and Psamathe.
4
Neptune's atmosphere is composed of many gases. Gases including hydrogen (80%), Helium (19%) and Methane (1.5%). Because of the large distance from the sun, the temperature is quite low. But with a chill in the air, Neptune still manages to host some of the most violent and extreme weather conditions in the solar system.
5
The surface make-up of Neptune is an ice layer made up of mainly helium and hydrogen. The blue color of the planet is caused by the amount of methane in the air.
6
Neptune's temperature is -218 degrees Celsius, the planet's south pole always happens to be 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the planet.
7
The diameter of Neptune is 30,599 miles. Neptune's mass is 1.024*10^26 kilograms.
