The first dam in the world:
The first dam was built in 4000 BC across the Nile River in Egypt. It was constructed for the building the city of Memphis. Earth dams were turned out by the ancient Babylonians in large numbers as part of their master plan to irrigate land that was ordinarily without water.

Three Gorges Dam
The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, located in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, China. The Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest power station. In 2014 the dam generated 98.8 TWh of electricity, setting a new world record by 0.17 TWh previously held by the Itaipú Dam on the Brazil/Paraguay border in 2013 of 98.63.

Different types of dams:
There are four different types of dams in the world. The following dams are Arch-gravity dam,Gravity dam, Cofferdam, and Embankment dam.

7
Arch-gravity dam:
An Arch-gravity dam is a dam with the characteristics of both an arch dam and a gravity dam. It is a dam that curves upstream in a narrowing curve that directs most of the water against the canyon rock walls, providing the force to compress the dam.

8
Gravity dam:
A Gravity dam is a dam constructed from concrete or stones and designed to hold back water by primarily improve the weight of the material alone to resist the horizontal pressure of water pushing against it.

9
Cofferdam:
A Cofferdam is a watertight enclosure pumped dry to the construction work below the water line, as when building bridges.

10
Embankment dam:
An Embankment dam is a massive artificial dam. It is typically created by the placement and compaction of a complex semi-plastic mound of various compositions of soil, sand, clay and/or rock.
