Summary

A boy has a mentally disabled brother and feels shameful to have him as a sibling. The boy finds a scarlet ibis out of season in his yard. The boy teaches his brother, Doodle, to walk out of shame and becomes his caretaker. The ibis gets blown away and dies and Doodle gets left behind in a storm. Doodle is later found dead.

Characters:

Brother: A boy driven by pride

Doodle: A mentally disabled kid

Mama: A loving, serious, and worrisome person.

Daddy: Very similar to Mama but more serious.

Aunt Nicey: As the name implies, she;s a nice aunt.

Doctor: One of the people that said that Doodle was going to die because of his weak heart.
