Meet Ron and Leslie, two best friends who just happen to be very different.
Hello Leslie.
Hey Ron!
2
Ron and Leslie are polar opposites. Ron is a powerful coyote, a lone ranger he doesn't really have a pack. He loves to hunt and run around in the forest. He has seen many years, living meal to meal, and doesn't really have a plan for when he gets too old to hunt. He isn't the type to worry, though, and is spending his grey years getting to know as many different people as possible, like his new best friend Leslie.
3
Leslie is a carefree, happy-go-lucky little squirrel. She has lived in the forest all her life, gathering the nuts she eats for food, having babies and frolicking in the trees. She knows she is growing old, and this does worry Leslie a bit. She decides to start a 401(k) plan so that when the time comes, she will have plenty of acorns stored for her retirement.
4
One day, Ron sees Leslie taking a portion of her acorns to the forest bank (a cave) to deposit them into her 401(k) account.
Hello Leslie. What in the world are you doing?
Hey Ron!
5
Leslie explains that she is taking a portion of her earnings and storing them away for when she retires. She tells Ron that when her acorns are in the 401(k), they are protected from the greedy Squirrel Council who usually take a portion of her earnings as tax. When she retires, Leslie says she can withdraw the acorns she has saved. They will be taxed some, but she will have plenty left to provide her with a good retirement. Its very safe, she says. Your funds are very safe in the forest bank.
6
What about you Ron? Do you have a plan where you are protected for the future?
7
Ron is stopped in his tracks. He realizes that he hasn't invested anything in his future! He heads over to the forest bank immediately where he researches retirement plans. He discovers Individual Retirement Accounts as the best plan for him. Each year he will take a portion of his mouse jerky that he makes and put it in the bank and it will be protected from the Council of Coyotes who want to take it.
8
In a few years, Ron and Leslie are both old and ready to not work any more. They withdraw their retirement accounts and settle in for rest and relaxation. Ron is so grateful for Leslie's wise investment advice!
